REGULATION FOR THE OPERATION
OF THE ACADEMIC ADVISOR INSTITUTION

According to the Decision of the Senate of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), No. 78656/23.06.2023, “Approval of the Regulation of Postgraduate Studies Programmes of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh)” (Government Gazette 4084/B-23.06.2023), the following apply:

Article 13 – Teaching Staff

Upon commencement of the MSc programme, a permanent faculty member (DEP) of the MSc is appointed as the Academic Advisor for each postgraduate student. Their role is to monitor the progress of the students’ studies and to be informed by instructors about any continuous absences of students under their responsibility. Furthermore, they ensure students are notified (via the Secretariat) that such absences may lead to failure in the course.

The Academic Advisor also provides assistance regarding the selection of the Master’s Thesis, taking into account the research interests of the postgraduate student. Postgraduate students are required to contact their Academic Advisor regarding any issue that may affect the smooth progress of their studies.

The Academic Advisor provides the necessary counseling to help the student meet the requirements of the Postgraduate Programme. They arrange regular meetings with their assigned students, at least twice (2) per semester. Their duties include, among others:

  • Identifying the needs and research interests of the postgraduate student, supporting their aptitudes and skills, and encouraging them to pursue fields that suit them.
  • Informing and facilitating the postgraduate student’s contact with the collective bodies of the MSc and the administrative services.
  • Providing assistance in drafting the student’s individual semester curriculum and defining the topic of the Master’s Thesis.
  • Identifying students who have several outstanding courses.
  • Developing a support plan for these students.

The teaching and administrative staff, as well as the competent services of the Institution, cooperate with and support the Academic Advisors in their work. They take into account information, observations, suggestions, and requests regarding potential deficiencies or malfunctions that cause problems for students, as well as proposals for addressing them.

“The MSc archives and manages information regarding student personal data in accordance with current legislation. It is noted that all the above procedures must strictly follow and operate according to the AUTh Personal Data Protection Regulation to ensure the full protection of postgraduate students.”
