Postgraduate Program in Orthodontics, which is running since 1994, is a full member of the Network of Erasmus Based European Orthodontic Programs (NEBEOP) since 2014.

Below you may find some brief information concerning our Program:

Only graduates of Schools of Dentistry with a minimum of one (1) year clinical practice in General Dentistry (not in Orthodontics!) can be admitted to the Program. 

The standards of the Network of Erasmus Based European Orthodontic Programs (NEBEOP) for specialization in Orthodontics require a minimum of three-year full-time studies. Οur Department offers only a full time 3,5 year (seven semesters) program. No other option in our Department is available, such as part time studies, or one- or two-years studies.

According to the current system, a new Class of students starts every three years. Our next Class 2026-2029 will start in February 2026. 

Although the official language of the course is English, knowledge of the Greek language is also required. In detail, proofs of excellent command of the English language and low command of the Greek language will be mandatory for consideration of your application. The corresponding tuition fees for each semester is 6.800,00 EUR. These tuition fees have to be payed before the commence of each semester.

No stipend or scholarships are provided by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Please also take into consideration that our Department cannot provide you with any assistance regarding accommodation and living expenses.

Finally, please take into consideration that no conditional approvals to the Program are sent to the applicants. Only final approvals are sent after the completion of the whole official admissions procedure.

    • The P.P.S. “Postgraduate Program in Orthodontics” after successful completion awards the Postgraduate Diploma (P.D.) with the title Master of Science in Orthodontics.

      Orthodontics is a recognized dental specialty, according to P.D. 235/1988.

    • Graduates have the right to participate in examinations for the acquisition of the title of specialty in Orthodontics, as defined by the Hellenic Dental Federation.

    • Specialization in modern methods of diagnosis and treatment of anomalies of the dento-maxillary system.
    • Acquisition of high-level clinical experience and theoretical training, aiming at the effective appliance of orthodontic and orthopedic methods.

    • The program enhances the collaboration with other specialists in the diagnosis and treatment of cases of skeletal dentofacial malformations, craniofacial anomalies and cases of patients with occlusal problems whose treatment requires collaboration with other specialties or disciplines of Dentistry and Medicine.

    • Students participate in research and acquire skills that allow them to contribute to the development of Orthodontic science.

Duration and terms of study
  • Each cycle of studies of the Postgraduate Program in Orthodontics and the minimum duration for the award of the Postgraduate Diploma (P.D.) with the title “Master of Science in Orthodontics” is set at 7 semesters.
  • Successful completion of the P.P.S. is completed by completing 210 ECTS.

The course program of the P.P.S. «Postgraduate Program in Orthodontics» includes the following:

  • General Courses: Attendance at these courses, which concern the basic sciences of Dentistry, is mandatory for all P.S. of the P.P.S. “Postgraduate Program in Orthodontics”. They are taught in the 1st and 2nd semesters of study and students must complete 22 ECTS.
  • Special Courses: Attendance at Special Courses is mandatory for all P.S. students of the P.P.S. “Postgraduate Program in Orthodontics». They are taught in all semesters and P.S. must complete a minimum of 166 credit units (ECTS).
  • Laboratory and Clinical Practice Courses: P.S. must attend all courses (clinical seminars, literature reviews, clinical, paraclinical and preclinical exercises) included in the Syllabus of each semester. The credit units (ECTS) corresponding to the Laboratory and Clinical Exercise courses are included in the Special Courses. The completion of clinical and laboratory exercises in the Department of Orthodontics (Government Gazette 2049/26.04.2022) is carried out as provided for in the present Regulation of Postgraduate Studies in Orthodontics.
  • Furthermore, to obtain the Postgraduate Diploma (P.D.) entitled “Master of Science in Orthodontics” requires the writing in English, the approval and support of the postgraduate Diploma Thesis (P.T.) which guarantees an additional 22 credit points (ECTS).

  • The Language of Instruction of the Postgraduate Program in Orthodontics is English
ECTS
  • 22 ECTS from attending general courses,
  • 166 ECTS from attending special courses and clinical practice (up to 10 ECTS can be chosen from courses in other P.P.S. of Dentistry of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki),
  • 22 ECTS from writing the Postgraduate Thesis.
Academic year schedule
  • The theoretical courses of the winter semester take place from September 1 to January 31, while the theoretical courses of the spring semester take place from February 1 to July 15.
  • The clinical practice of each academic year takes place from September 1 to July 15.
  • Course exams are held during the last two weeks of the semesters. The final exams are held at the end of the program
  1. The P.P.S. «Postgraduate Program in Orthodontics» has tuition fees, which are set at the amount of six thousand eight hundred euros (€6,800) per semester of studies. The cost-effectiveness of tuition fees is documented by the Detailed Budget of the P.P.S.
  2. P.S. students are required to renew their registration at the beginning of each semester and to pay the tuition fees corresponding to the semester in advance to cover part of the costs of their education.
