PROCEDURES AND CRITERIA FOR THE SELECTION OF ACADEMIC STAFF

The Schoolof Dentistry adopts and follows clear, transparent, and meritocratic procedures for the selection of staff with the appropriate qualifications and provides employment conditions with respect to the importance of teaching and research, as defined by relevant legislation. The process for the election/advancement of staff has the exclusive goal of:

  • Ensuring the prestige of the Department
  • Continuously improving the educational and research work of the Schooland
  • Continuously improving the position of the Schoolboth nationally and internationally.

In the selection and advancement of staff, current legislation and related regulatory decisions of the Senate are followed. All members of the academic staff possess at least the necessary teaching skills. The fulfillment of this requirement is ensured by procedures stipulated by legislation for the announcement and hiring/appointment of staff based on Law 4957/2022 (A’ 141), which establishes the procedures and conditions for election to a new (vacant) position of Academic Staff. New positions are announced in accordance with Articles 138, 139, and 141 of Law 4957/2022, and candidates for any Academic Staff position must meet specific criteria (including teaching), as stated in Article 143 of Law 4957/2022.

Additionally, paragraph 3 of the relevant article specifies that the judgment for the election of a new Academic Staff member is based on the candidate’s overall teaching and research work, including an evaluation of their teaching ability. Candidates who “meet the qualifications required by law for election to an Academic Staff position, according to Article 143, are called by the Dean of the School to give a scientific lecture on a subject related to the field of the announced position in front of the members of the Electoral Body and the academic community, including interested students” (Article 147 para. 7)

The Schoolof Dentistry has compiled the Registry of Members, as provided by Law 4957/2022, which has been posted on the APELLA website. The Registry of Members is updated regularly.

The teaching work of the Postgraduate Study Programs (P.S.P.) is assigned, following a decision by the competent body of the P.S.P. The assignment of the teaching work of the P.S.P. is made by decision of the competent body (SchoolAssembly or Study Program Committee in the case of Interdepartmental or Interinstitutional Study Program) upon the recommendation of the Coordination Committee of the P.S.P., if it exists, otherwise by the Director of the P.S.P.

Specific terms and conditions regarding the assignment of teaching work may be set out in the establishment decision of each P.S.P. Teaching work includes:
