Postgraduate Diploma Thesis

Provided the postgraduate student has successfully passed all courses of the 1st and 2nd semesters of the PostGraduate Study Program «PROSTHODONTICS»  , they may begin the process of preparing their postgraduate diploma thesis in the 6th semester.

For this purpose, the postgraduate student submits a request to commence the postgraduate diploma thesis. The application must include the proposed title, the proposed supervisor, and an abstract of the proposed work.

Upon approving the application, the Departmental Assembly decides on the formation of a three-member Examination Committee and the designation of the language in which the PDT will be prepared.

Supervision of diploma theses is permitted for instructors as referred to in paragraph 3 of Article 83 of Law 4957/2022.

The presentation of the postgraduate diploma thesis is defended before the three-member Examination Committee on a date and at a location designated by the PostGraduate Study Program «PROSTHODONTICS»    ‘s CC.

The members of the three-member Examination Committee must have the same or a related scientific specialization as the cognitive subject of the PostGraduate Study Program «PROSTHODONTICS» .

For the PDT to be approved, the postgraduate student must defend it before the Examination Committee. The maximum number of diploma theses supervised by each supervisor is three (3) per study cycle, provided that sufficient staff is available.

The preparation of the PDT is governed by the Code of Academic Ethics of AUTH. Every creator or co-creator of any intellectual work is entitled to be named and recognized as such, enjoying both the financial and moral rights/powers derived from the specific work. Exceptionally, if the original intellectual creation (“work”) is the final output of paid research work assigned by a body outside AUTH, the financial rights of the creator or co-creators may be limited based on the terms of the contract under which the research work is assigned, while the moral rights remain with the creator(s), subject to necessary contractual limitations for the exploitation/economic utilization of the created intellectual work.

For the preparation of each PDT that utilizes the infrastructure and research units of the Prosthodontics Laboratory, the postgraduate student is required to adhere to the procedures stipulated by the Internal Regulation of the Laboratory and the internal regulations of the individual research infrastructures in accordance with Law 4957/2022.

For the presentation of the PDT, a positive recommendation from the three-member Examination Committee is required. The defense of the PDT takes place through an open procedure in the presence of the Supervisor and the other two (2) members of the Examination Committee, on a specific date and at a location designated by the PostGraduate Study Program «PROSTHODONTICS»    ‘s CC.

Following the PDT defense, minutes are drawn up, noting the individual grade given by each member of the three-member Examination Committee, the average grade, and any observations or comments.

After its approval by the Committee, the PDT is mandatorily posted on the School’s website and the PostGraduate Study Program «PROSTHODONTICS» ‘s website.

If the PDT evaluation is negative, the postgraduate student may resubmit their work, incorporating the comments for its improvement, within a timeframe determined by the three-member Examination Committee. If the second evaluation is also negative, the postgraduate student loses the right to be awarded the DMS.

In exceptional circumstances, if there is an objective impossibility or a significant reason, it is possible to replace the supervisor or a member of the three-member Examination Committee, as well as to change the PDT topic, following a recommendation from the CC and a decision from the Departmental Assembly.

The approved PDT, along with its abstracts in Greek and English, must be submitted to the PostGraduate Study Program «PROSTHODONTICS»    Secretariat in three (3) printed copies (for the Departmental library, for the respective laboratory, and for the postgraduate student’s personal file). Additionally, the postgraduate student is obligated to electronically submit the PDT to the AUTH Institutional Repository (IKEE) website (https://ikee.lib.auth.gr) and the Department of Dentistry’s website before the graduation ceremony.
