QUALITY POLICY
The Quality Assurance Policy of the IMSc is fully aligned with the quality policy of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, as approved by the Senate of the Institution and reflects its core values.
The IMSc ensures the quality of its teaching, research and administrative work through the continuous improvement of all its functions and with the participation and contribution of all its members. In addition, the IMSc is committed to developing a creative research and working environment for all its staff, teaching, research and administrative, as well as a creative academic environment for its students.
Quality is recognised as a fundamental element for the realisation of the vision and achievement of the mission of the IMSc therefore it is considered important to create a culture of quality.
Implementation of Quality Policy – Quality Assurance
The Interdepartmental Master’s Programme in Sport and Health Studies in particular is committed to the implementation of the quality policy, which enhances the academic character and orientation of the postgraduate programmes, promotes their purpose and subject matter, implements their strategic objectives (as set each year) and defines the means, actions and ways of achieving them, ensures the participation of stakeholders and implements the measures and procedures for their implementation.
In addition to the above, the IMSc is committed to fostering a climate of communication and cooperation between all members (staff, students and stakeholders) of the IMMS.
The Interdepartmental Postgraduate Programme “Sport and Health” applies the institutionalized quality assurance procedures of the Quality Manual of the Internal Quality Assurance System (ESDP) of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with the specificity required at the level of the Postgraduate Programme. The implementation of the ESDP procedures is carried out in collaboration with the University’s Quality Assurance Unit (MODIP). The quality assurance procedures are a valuable tool for the Department and the individual Postgraduate Programmes to implement their teaching and research activities, to ensure the achievement of the objectives they have set and to enhance the academic work in general.
The Interdepartmental Postgraduate Programme “Sport and Health”, for the implementation of the policy, is committed to implementing quality procedures that will demonstrate:
– the appropriateness of the structure and organisation of the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Programme
– that the intended learning outcomes and qualifications are in accordance with the European and National Qualifications Framework for Higher Education
– the promotion of the quality and effectiveness of the teaching/research work of the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Programme
– the suitability of the qualifications of the teaching staff for the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Programme
– the drafting, implementation and review of specific annual quality objectives for the improvement of the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Programme
– the level of demand of the acquired qualifications of graduates in the labour market
– the quality of the support services
– the efficient use of the resources of the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Programme, which may come from tuition fees
– the annual internal evaluation and review of the quality assurance system for the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Programme, with the cooperation of the OMEA of the supervising Department and the MODIP of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
The procedures in place to monitor and continuously improve the quality of the Interdepartmental Master’s Programme are detailed as follows:
– Implementation of the Quality Assurance Policy for the Interdepartmental Master’s Programme, its periodic review and revision (when required).
– Design of the Interdepartmental Master’s Programme, in accordance with the current legislation and the Regulations of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, taking into account – as far as possible – the views of students, graduates of the Interdepartmental Master’s Programme and partner institutions.
– Harmonisation with the current legislative framework and regulatory provisions.
– Implementation of the Regulations of the Postgraduate Studies Programmes and other Regulations and Regulatory Decisions of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
– Submission of the Individual Course Description Form and the Course Description Form to the information system of the MODIP, by the lecturers.
– Conducting course and faculty evaluation by students.
– Various ways of assessing students.
– Attempt to monitor the progression and professional rehabilitation of graduates of postgraduate programmes.
– Teaching staff (selection, regulations, performance, support).
– Allocation and management of the resources of the Interdepartmental Master’s Programme (infrastructure, equipment, etc.).
– Collection and processing/analysis of quality data (complete, correct and up-to-date data) to ensure the quality of the Interdepartmental Master’s Programme with a view to improving it.
– Monitoring, analysis and comparison with national and international indicators.
– Publication of information on the Interdepartmental Master’s programme.
– Qualitative and systematic updating of the website of the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Programme (Greek, English and possibly other languages), for the publication of relevant information on the Programme.
– Mechanisms for feedback on strategy and target setting etc., review, action and corrective actions (when required).
– Conduct an annual internal evaluation (monitoring, control and review of the Interdepartmental Master’s Programme), in accordance with all the above, based on the guidelines of the HAHE and the MODIP.
– Support external evaluation and accreditation processes, in cooperation with the MODIP.
Quality Objectives
The quality objectives on which the Department of Medicine will focus its efforts for the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Programme “Sport and Health” may include the following:
1. The high level and quality of the studies by international standards.
2. The provision of knowledge with an emphasis on both basic sciences and clinical work, through modern educational practices such as problem-based learning (PBL) and integration in medical education, along with the cultivation of critical, creative and research thinking.
3. The right combination of depth and breadth of knowledge.
4. Familiarity with cutting-edge areas and the conduct of laboratory and clinical work, combined with research of international standard.
5. Continuous quality improvement in education and research
6. Promotion to society, to the state and to the international scientific community of the work carried out at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the MSc
7. Enhancement of Academic Advising
The achievement of the above objectives is a key concern of the Interdepartmental Postgraduate Studies Programme and is made possible by the high quality of the members of the IMMS and the active participation of students in its activities.
Publication
The Quality Policy is communicated and disseminated to academic and administrative staff, students, as well as other stakeholders. The Quality Policy is posted on the website of the host Department and on the website of the Interdepartmental Master’s Programme.
