The Department of Chemistry of the Faculty of Sciences organizes and operates a PSP in Chemistry entitled: “Synthesis, Natural Products and Contemporary Applications”.
The object of the PSP is the education, specialization and technical scientific training of graduates of chemistry-related disciplines in modern issues of Chemical Synthesis and its applications, with emphasis on the development of methodologies for the synthesis of organic compounds and inorganic materials as well as the identification and study of the properties of Natural Products and Bioactive Compounds and related disciplines.
The aim of the program is generally the promotion of knowledge, the advancement of research and technology, as well as the fulfillment of the educational, research, social, cultural and developmental needs of the country. In particular, it aims to train high-level scientists capable of contributing to theoretical and applied areas of specific scientific disciplines (Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Biochemistry) in continuation of the subject areas of the first cycle of studies of the Department of Chemistry related to the aforementioned specializations as well as to the production and dissemination of knowledge, technology, methodologies and research findings in the scientific field in which the Department of Chemistry is active.
The learning outcomes and qualifications of those who successfully complete the PSP are as follows: a) in-depth understanding of contemporary theoretical concepts related to Synthetic Chemistry and related specialized knowledge areas, b) comprehension of the application of acquired theoretical background through the design and implementation of experimental work and c) understanding of the correlation of a) and b) with the needs of modern Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industries. Based on the above, graduates will have acquired the appropriate qualifications to continue their studies at a higher level (PhD) or to pursue a professional career in industry sectors such as materials, pharmaceuticals, natural products, cosmetics, etc.
The Master’s Program entitled: “Synthesis, Natural Products and Contemporary Applications” of the Chemistry School, AUTh, has been accredited by the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE) as fully compliant with the commitments and requirements for the implementation of an adequate quality assurance policy in accordance with HAHE and AUTh regulations.

Notice of Selection for Academic Year 2026-2027
Application Period: 22/6/2026 – 24/7/2026
Holders of 1st cycle academic studies degrees from Departments of Greek and foreign Universities in relevant scientific fields (i.e. Departments of Applied Sciences, Agriculture School, Polytechnic School) are accepted in the P.S.P.
The recognition of foreign academic qualifications for admission to a P.S.P. is carried out by the Academic Departments. In case the first cycle of studies has been carried out abroad, the candidate is not obliged to obtain equivalency of academic qualifications from the Hellenic National Academic Recognition Information Center (DOATAP). Even if the candidate provides equivalency, the recognition is still carried out by the Department.
The number of admissions per year is set at a maximum of twenty-five (25) postgraduate students. The P.S.P. cannot operate with less than eight (8) postgraduate students
The Program is structured in three (3) semesters. The courses taught per semester are presented in the table below. All courses (except the Master Thesis) are elective courses from which the student selects three (3) per semester. It is noted that each semester corresponds to 30 ECTS.
The official language of the Program is Greek and in special cases English.
Depending on the cognitive background of the P.S.P. students, the C.C. may, on a case-by-case basis, decide to assign additional courses of the undergraduate program.

In the PSP, tuition fees are set at the amount of three thousand six hundred euros (€3,600) for the entire duration of studies, which postgraduate students are required to pay in two equal installments during the 1st week of the 1st and the 3rd academic semester. These amounts are non-refundable for any reason.
Tuition fees are payable to the Special Account for Research Funds of A.U.Th.(ELKE). Delinquent payment of financial obligations is considered sufficient grounds for not awarding the Diploma or for the removal from the Program.
Graduate students who meet the criterion of excellence during the first cycle of studies, equivalent to possessing a degree or diploma of at least seven and a half out of ten (7.5/10), have the right to waive tuition fees based on financial or social criteria. The specific terms and conditions for the tuition fee waiver are outlined in current legislation and the decision of the Minister of Education and Religious Affairs. Exempted students should not exceed thirty percent (30%) of the total number of students admitted to the Program, and this pertains to participation in a single Program. If the beneficiaries exceed the aforementioned percentage, they are selected in order of ranking, starting from those with the lowest income.
The application for tuition fees waiver is submitted by the interested party to the Department after the completion of the selection process. The tuition fee waiver is provided exclusively for studying at one (1) Postgraduate Program organized by a national Higher Educational Institution. This does not apply to citizens of non-EU countries.
