Pericles Latinopoulos is Professor Emeritus at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), Greece, which he served for 35 years as Professor of Water Resources Management in the School of Civil Engineering.
His principal teaching and research interests include water resources planning and management, groundwater flow and contamination modeling, environmental economics, and engineering education. In all these topics he coordinated and conducted many research projects. He has authored two theses and three books, and he has published about 200 papers in scientific journals and conference proceedings, research reports and other forms of publications.
During his long academic career, he chaired and participated in many committees and task forces of the University, the majority of them related to environmental, engineering, education, and research issues. Most notably, he served as Director of the Centre for Professional Training, Vice-Chairman of the Research Committee, and member of the Sustainable Development Network of AUTh. He also served as Chairman of the School of Civil Engineering (1993-1997) and of the School of Spatial Planning and Development (2013-2016), and he has been Director of the Postgraduate Program “Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development” for 20 years.
At the national level, among various public or scientific organizations and institutions, he was member of the Greek National Committee of UNESCO’s IHP (International Hydrological Program), he was Chairman of the Network of the Greek Universities Water Resources and Hydraulic Laboratories and he served the Pedagogical Institute of Greece as Vice Chairman and Chairman of its Department of Technological Professional Education.
At the international level, he is an Ordinary Member of Accademia Pontaniana. In relation to Civil Engineering Education in Europe, he was Board member of AECEF (Association of European Civil Engineering Faculties), member of the Steering Committee of the thematic network EUCEET (EUropean Civil Engineering Education and Training) and member of the Administrative Council of EUCEET Association.
