Coming to Thessaloniki

The conference will take place in the historical city of Thessaloniki, Greece. Thessaloniki, the second largest city and co-capital of Greece, is world known for the Ancient Greek, Roman and Byzantine monuments, the charming shopping thoroughfares, the indulging local cuisine and the exciting nightlife. The city of Thessaloniki may be reached by plane, train or bus.

By plane

The easiest way to get to Thessaloniki is by a direct fly to the city’s airport called Thessaloniki Airport Makedonia (SKG) serving both international and domestic flights. Most major airline companies have direct flights to Thessaloniki or flights via Athens. Check flight options from your location to Thessaloniki Airport on Google Flights.

The Thessaloniki airport is the second biggest airport in Greece and it is located 14km east of the city center.

By train

Thessaloniki’s Railway Station is centrally located (28, Monastiriou Street) and is conveniently connected with the rest of the city via public transportation. If you are coming to Thessaloniki via Athens, the Express or Intercity trains are suggested in order to travel faster.

By bus

In order to travel by bus to Thessaloniki or from Thessaloniki to any destination in Greece you may find all the necessary information by contacting the Macedonia Intercity Bus Station (KTEL) of Thessaloniki via this website. If you are coming to Thessaloniki via Athens, it is a 511km (approximately 6 hours) journey.

By ship

Organization of the workshop

Venue

The Recent Developments in Conformal Field Theories workshop will be held in the Amphitheatre III of the Aristotle University’s Research Dissemination Center (KEDEA), located in the 3rd September University Campus (3ης Σεπτεμβρίου Πανεπιστημιούπολη, Thessaloniki 546 36).

The KEDEA building is adjacent to the campus of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and in a walking distance from the city center. It is connected with the following bus lines:

  • Lines 2,7,14,58: Bus Stop University of Macedonia;
  • Lines 17,24,37: Bus Stop Fititiki Leschi;
  • Lines 10,31: Bus Stop Agia Foteini-University of Macedonia;
  • Lines 27,28,83: Bus Stop Τerma Grammis.

How to buy bus tickets:

Bus tickets can be bought directly inside the bus (there is a machine accepting only with coins – no credit card – and does not give change) or at ticket kiosks. The cost the ticket is 0,90€ (one bus ride). For detailed information, please browse this website.

Taxi prices:

  • For distances inside the city (e.g. from hotels to KEDEA), the minimum price of taxi ride is around 4-5 € (7-8 € during night, i.e., from 00:00 to 05:00).
  • For a taxi ride from the airport to the city centre, the price is 24 € (32 € during night hours). The journey takes around 30 minutes. Please check this website for more information and tips.
