University of Ioannina

The University of Ioannina was established sixty years ago and its foundations were laid following a voiced demand by the Epirots. Over the years, the University has successfully reached its full growth potential by working tirelessly to become a leading public University that has gained national and international recognition, in research and education. Its mission is to create and transfer knowledge without discrimination or exclusion, foster the growth of sciences and arts, and promote cultural pluralism and diversity.

As of 2018, the University of Ioannina consists of eleven schools and twenty-three departments. There is a student population of 33,381 enrolled at the university (30,401 at the undergraduate level and 2,980 at the postgraduate level) and 524 faculty members, while teaching is further supplemented by 108 Teaching Fellows and 54 Technical Laboratory staff. The university Administrative Services are staffed with 298 employees.

Eleni Aretouli


Eleni Aretouli, PhD, is a licensed Psychologist, Associate Professor of Neuropsychology at the Department of Psychology, School of Social Sciences of the University of Ioannina in Greece. Before joining University of Ioannina, she had been Assistant Professor of Neuropsychology at the School of Psychology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki from 2014 to 2020. She has extensive research experience in Europe (i.e., as post-doctoral researcher at the University of Deusto, Basque Country, Spain from 2011 to 2014) and USA (as post-doctoral fellow in Clinical Neuropsychology from 2008 to 2010 and then Part-time Instructor until 2013 at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine). Dr. Aretouli’s main research interests focus on the biological bases of psychological processes and the impact of various neurological (especially neurodegenerative) and health-related conditions on cognitive abilities and psychological processes. She has participated in several research projects, sponsored by NIH or other USA Institutions. She has published more than 30 scientific articles in international peer-reviewed journals (impact of published work according to Scopus: 863 citations, h-index: 13). Dr. Aretouli is on the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Neuropsychological Society and has been an active member of several local and International Committees, and Scientific Societies that promote improved care for persons with neurocognitive disorders. She is editorial member in two international scientific journals and ad hoc reviewer in numerous journals.

Eleni Konstantinopoulou

Eleni Konstantinopoulou, PhD, is a licensed Psychologist and a Postdoctoral Researcher at the School of Psychology, Faculty of Philosophy of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece. She completed her postgraduate studies in 2010 (Master of Science in Cognitive Psychology) and her PhD in 2019 (Neuropsychology) at the School of Psychology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Her main research interests focus on the impact of neurological conditions on cognitive abilities and psychological processes. She has participated in several research projects in the fields of cognitive psychology and neuropsychology and she had been a research assistant and research coordinator in clinical trials. Dr Konstantinopoulou had been a clinical and research fellow at the 2nd Department of Neurology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki from 2010 – 2016. For the last 4 years, she served as teaching staff (academic scholar) at the School of Psychology of the University of Western Macedonia and at the School of Psychology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece. She is an active member of the Hellenic Neuropsychological Society and she has published more than 20 scientific articles in international peer-reviewed journals.
