I especially recommend this program to students coming from outside Greece. It provides a rare opportunity to study Film & Television outside of your familiar context, and will vastly expand your worldview. By immersing yourself in this warm and supportive transcultural forum, you will be awed by the way the moving image assumes such diverse forms in the world’s various societies and political environments.
The MA Film and Television Studies program is interesting and challenging at the same time. The structure is rigorous and it pushes you to do a lot of reading and researching for writing academic essays and analysis. The course is focused primarily on theoretical methodologies, with an optional course in film production. I had never imagined watching films and television shows the way the program challenges me to. I hope this course gives me a direction towards what I want to do for my future. Additionally, this was my first time leaving my home country to pursue studies, and the city of Thessaloniki has now become my second home.
The MA program offered me the opportunity to become part of an encouraging academic environment and learn from dedicated professors, who were all experts in their fields. It was a rewarding experience that challenged me to explore my interests, advance my research skills and further my academic career.

Its expert staff will guide you as you approach film and television theory and history from various, equally engrossing perspectives, as well as support you in discovering and honing your own distinctive research interests. This program was a valuable step towards my growing career as a Multimedia & Design Officer at the CYENS Research Centre in Cyprus and as a PhD candidate at Leiden University, the Netherlands.
Participating in this MA program was an enriching academic journey that provided me with a solid foundation in the field of film and television studies. The program’s emphasis on theoretical knowledge deepened my understanding and broadened my perspective, enabling me to explore and conduct research on subjects that were truly meaningful to me. I had the privilege of engaging with a diverse community of international students and learning from esteemed professors who are masters in their respective domains. All the while, the enchanting city of Thessaloniki, with its vibrant energy and rich cultural heritage, served as the perfect backdrop for my scholarly pursuits.
This MA Programme helped me enrich my knowledge on cinema theory and history. The aspiring professors were always willing and present to guide and assist us with our research and to transmit their knowledge. An important aspect of the MA is that in each semester there was a guest professor from abroad invited to conduct a course. Overall, the programme equipped me with specific knowledge and enriched my skills considering research. All this within a multicultural university environment.
You never know what and when will strike you very deep inside. You run your roads until you are stopped by that invisible touch of beauty. This is what happened to me at the MA Film & Television Studies programme, when the wide coverage of the still young Cinema and Television (their history is only a little more than a hundred years old), insightful lectures, fascinating topics for reflection and luminous thoughts of brilliant professors expanded my boundaries and outlook, and opened new horizons. And now you keep on running your roads heartened by the warmth of the stunning country of Greece, its humanistic culture, its friendly people and fertilised with new meanings drawn from the program.

Being part of this MA program was a rewarding experience that helped me expand my academic horizons and cultivate my film taste. It introduced me to esteemed tutors and brought me close to like-minded individuals who share the same passions and aspirations as myself. Besides the theoretical knowledge offered by the carefully curated curriculum, I was able to hone my practical skills as well, since the program offered me the opportunity to intern abroad. I spent a summer in Rome, working for a film production company, where I also had the chance to explore cultural associations and film foundations, enhancing my knowledge. Simultaneously, my student status enabled me to attain accreditation as a member of prominent film festivals like the Berlinale, Cinema Ritrovato, TIFF, and AIFF. This experience offered me a distinctive perspective on the inner workings of the industry.
